Gorby Wins $10,000

POWELL, OH — Member Justin Gorby of Canal Winchester, OH shot his first hole in one, winning $10,000 at the Nathan Kleeh Memorial Scramble at Safari Golf Club on Saturday. The winning 157-yard shot on 10th hole was witnessed by Bobby Owens, Mike Gibson, and an idiot that skips the Carl Spackler Open each year.

??You never think it will happen, but the ball simply disappeared,? Gorby said. ??It just seemed to impossible and more likely it was just not in view.?

Gibson had just given Gorby a cigar on the 10th tee, who was lighting it while everyone else was hitting. Owens looking through his range finder asked, "157 yards. Gorby... have you ever had a hole in one before?"

Gorby replied, "No. Close though."

Justin teed up for an uphill 170-yard shot. He addressed the ball. Just before swinging at the potential $10,000 shot, he looked back at Gibson and Owens and said, "If I make this one, Spackler is on me next year.?

He hit a knock down 5-iron right at the flagstick. The group saw it land, but could not see it on the green with the range finder. They drove up to the green and Gibson walked out on the green and said, "I do not see it on the green." He proceeded to look in the hole where he jumped and yelling, "It's in the hole!"

The Captains Club was contacted regarding the surprising news release. Greg Long, Chairman of the Captains Club, told Gorby to hold $3,000 cash for taxes and send a personal check to Rick Dosky for $7,000.

Slick asked Gorby by telephone, "How old are you?" Gorby replied, "30". Slick replied, "Write that check to Dosky and your covered until your at least 50 years old. This is your last payment to Dosky before you can move up to the senior tees."

Mike Gibson grabbed the cell phone and remarked, "Slick. I do not know where we are going in 2011, but load up on the participant options. Put everything and anything in it because Owens and I are buying everything available."

The team ended up scoring a hole-in-one and 4 birdies on the final 6 holes of the event. "An amazing experience," says Owens. "There is not a lot of people who have experienced two holes-in-one in 30 days."

The 2010 Virtual Tournament continues with a new leader. Jason Ridgeway has once again took over the top spot with 68.3 points per round. There are 24 golfers on the tournament leaderboard with Justin Gorby holding 5th position.
